Labuan Bajo sits on the western tip of Flores island in East Nusa Tenggara. It's the main jump-off point for Komodo National Park, and the only practical base for a liveaboard trip. Getting here requires flying.
Flying to Labuan Bajo
Komodo Airport (LBJ) handles direct flights from several Indonesian cities. There are no international flights — all routes are domestic. Most foreign visitors route through Bali or Jakarta.
From Bali (DPS → LBJ)
This is the most common route. Multiple airlines fly this daily, including Lion Air, Garuda, Batik Air, and TransNusa. Flight time is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Fares range from IDR 500,000–1,200,000 one-way depending on how far in advance you book.
Ngurah Rai Airport to Komodo Airport is probably the route you want. Search on Traveloka, Tiket.com, or Google Flights.
From Jakarta (CGK → LBJ)
Direct flights exist but are less frequent than from Bali. Flight time is roughly 2.5–3 hours. Some Jakarta visitors fly via Bali rather than waiting for a direct flight.
From Makassar, Surabaya, and Lombok
Direct connections exist on some days. Check availability — these routes have fewer frequencies and sometimes require a same-day connection.
Important: book domestic flights early, especially for July, August, and the Christmas–New Year period. Seats on Bali–Labuan Bajo routes sell out 2–3 weeks ahead during peak season.
Arriving in Labuan Bajo
The airport is a 10–15 minute drive from the harbor and main hotel strip. Taxis and ojek (motorbike taxis) are available outside the terminal. Most hotels will arrange airport pickup if you ask in advance.
Labuan Bajo itself is a working fishing town that's grown quickly into a tourism hub. The harbor front has restaurants, dive shops, tour operators, and accommodation ranging from basic guesthouses to mid-range hotels. It's compact and walkable.
Spending a Night Before Your Liveaboard
Most liveaboards depart in the morning, so arriving the evening before is standard practice. This gives you time to collect gear, confirm the itinerary with the operator, and get to the harbor without rushing. Labuan Bajo has good seafood restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere — arriving a day early is a fine idea, not wasted time.
Dara Flores Adventures can help with accommodation recommendations and pier logistics once you've confirmed your liveaboard dates. Ask when you book.
