Labuan Bajo Flight Guide: Getting to Komodo from Bali & Jakarta

Labuan Bajo (LBJ) is the only practical gateway to Komodo National Park. Here's how to get there from Bali and Jakarta — airlines, booking tips, and what to expect on arrival.

Labuan Bajo (airport code: LBJ) is the primary gateway to Komodo National Park. Most visitors arrive by air, connecting from major Indonesian hubs like Bali (Denpasar) or Jakarta. Understanding flight options and schedules is the first step in planning your Komodo adventure.

Flights from Bali (Denpasar - DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ)

Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is the most common departure point for flights to Labuan Bajo. Multiple airlines operate this route daily, with flight durations typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Key Airlines & Typical Schedules:

  • Garuda Indonesia: Often has early morning departures (e.g., 7:00 AM) and later afternoon flights. Generally considered a full-service carrier.
  • Batik Air: Offers several daily flights throughout the day.
  • Citilink: A low-cost carrier with regular services.
  • Lion Air/Wings Air: Also provides frequent connections.

Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak season (July-August and December-January), as flights can fill up quickly. Prices fluctuate, but expect to pay between IDR 1,000,000 - IDR 2,500,000 (approximately USD 65 - USD 160) for a one-way ticket, depending on the airline and booking time.

Flights from Jakarta (CGK) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ)

Direct flights from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) are available but less frequent than from Bali. The flight duration is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.

Key Airlines & Typical Schedules:

  • Garuda Indonesia: Usually offers at least one direct flight daily.
  • Batik Air: May also have direct options or connections via Bali.

If direct flights are unavailable or inconvenient, you can fly from Jakarta to Bali, and then take a connecting flight to Labuan Bajo. This often adds significant travel time but provides more flexibility.

Upon Arrival at Komodo Airport (LBJ)

Komodo Airport is small and located very close to Labuan Bajo town center and the harbor. A taxi or pre-arranged transfer to your hotel or liveaboard departure point will take approximately 10-15 minutes.

Practical Tip: Ensure your domestic flight allows for sufficient baggage, especially if you're bringing diving gear. Some low-cost carriers have stricter limits or charge extra for checked luggage.
